First trip to River Chew 2020
Back to my roots and favourite section of the River Chew. I have to say the river is now is wild as ever and I was actually really impressed with the gravels and number of wild trout. Course species like Dace and also Grayling conspicuously absent. Water level low with no real difference from last season. Whether it was the Mayfly but the trout were abundant and evident with rising fish all over the place. Loved it catching a good number of fish in all sizes purely on the dry.

Excellent blog. I just wondered which section of the Chew you fish? I have walked a lot of the KAA stretch and a great deal of the water is very sluggish and didn't look to be trout holding water. Thanks and tight lines.
ReplyDeleteBest section for fly fishing is between Compton Dando and Chewton Keynsham. More riffles and pools Compton Dando end. Bit of a jungle and needs wading but well worth it in Keynsham Angling ticket. Lots of wild Brown Trout, a few Grayling, odd Chub and the shoal of Dace all can take fly. Trout on lower sections down past Chewton Keynsham but not great fly water.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advice! Will pick up a KAA Membership and dust off the 6ft 3wt :)
